What a day! We started off the day reading a wonderful book...."Where the Wild Things Are". The kindergartners then drew and painted their own wild things. After that we went to Ms. Wilson's fourth-grade class to survey the students. We wanted to know what they wanted to be for Halloween. We had 4 different categories which were "Traditional", "Book or Movie"," Fairy Tale" and "Other". The kindergartners had signs and clipboards and did a great job taking down the data! This was filmed by professional film makers for Bainbridge Foundation. After that it was our own private recess - these kindergartners are getting good on those rings -inside for a quick snack and then a trip to the computer lab! Lunch came next, then recess and R&R, TumbleBooks and Haunted Gym......our kinda day!

Thursday!!
Today was full and fun! We had administers, along with Mr. Ande, visit our class this morning to watch us do reading activities. Of course these kindergartners impressed them all!
We celebrated Cameryn's birthday....
Our favorite activity today (well besides eating very yummy cupcakes) was counting pumpkin seeds! We joined lots of other classes in the country, estimating how many seeds were in our pumpkin. We will be checking the online results next week! Here is the link to our slide show....

Happy Diwahli!
We celebrated Diwali today! This Festival of Lights holiday is from India. Pavel's mom came in and helped the kindergartners make, Samiyah, a special Diwali dessert using vermicelli. Pavel passed out a candy treat including mishiree, a rock candy that the kindergartners were REALLY excited about! We decorated our doorway with a flower garland and later we painted diyas to take home.

Tuesday!
We read more wonderful books....."Pumpkins" and "Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins" and discussed the difference between fiction and non-fiction (hint one of the books did not have a raccoon dressed in a jaunty red bandanna!). Upfront, listening to stories......
Kindergartners practiced their "Frog Jump" letters on their slates.....they are getting good!!!!
Library today was all about Halloween.....so many great books to read, Ms. Pool has a hard time choosing!
Free choice always good......Drew helped with "accessorizing" using Polydrons!

Monday!
A wonderful day! Oh how I love these kindergartners! They are so competent and are moving through the day following routines, and taking care of all the things they need to do to have a successful day. I really am amazed!!!
We learned how to do Popsicle stick tallying today. Those smart kindergartners were adding 1's, subtracting 1's, counting forwards and backwards by 1's, learning instant recognition of quantities to 5 and counting on from 5. I found out if I present any activity and say we want to "beat the clock" I get REALLY good buy-in and we have many chances to do the activity again and again as the kindergartners gain skills. They want to do it in under a minute!!!!
We are reading great Halloween books and books about growing pumpkins. We are taking part in a nation-wide project estimating how many seeds are in our pumpkin. The pumpkin will get cut open and we will count and see how close we came! 100 got the most votes so we are going with that number (verses 6 or 3000). We will post our results and see what other classrooms came up with.
I was hoping to get better photos from anyone who came on the Pumpkin Patch field trip to add to my slide show.....I am thinking you have better ones than mine but I will send it out anyway.....it's just fun looking at them! Here is the link...

Pumpkin Patch Friday
Today was our trip to Sunrise Hill Farm and it was wonderful! Here are the kindergartners running with Blackjack and Chrysanthemum!
Getting ready to go through the corn maze...
Listening to the farmer talk about dahlias...
Listening to a book about the life cycle of a pumpkin inside the 100 year-old barn...
Hanging out...

Thursday!
The day just flew by!!! Your amazing students worked on Literacy Jobs, writing and handwriting jobs, and math jobs. They are brilliant! We used our new Handwriting Without Tears slates to practice "Frog Jump" letters. I read more wonderful Halloween books. Our favorite was "Room on the Broom". We are keeping our fingers crossed that it won't rain TOO much tomorrow while we are on our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch!

Tuesday
Onward to Literacy Jobs and then Journals. These kindergartners are doing a wonderful job getting their ideas down on paper! We read one one of my favorite books "Pumpkin Eye" by Denise Fleming, and "Pumpkin Trouble" which made us laugh!
We had a chance to go to the computer lab today - they are getting good at with the mouse and clicking on the right tools while using Tux Paint.
The kindergartners stayed busy ALL day.....
