Monday!
It was a very busy Monday! Your children are doing so well with the daily routine....they got right down to business getting everything done!
We read a book "Sam and the Lucky Money" about a boy who gave money to a homeless man he met. We had a talk about how we could help someone and I mentioned to the kindergartners that Helpline is all out of cold cereal and needs more. If you can, please let your kindergartner help shop to buy a box of cereal to donate to Helpline! Thanks!
Here are those shining faces....

Tuesday!!
We are working on lots of Chinese New Year projects and are reading some great books!
We have been learning about "Quotation Marks", Exclamation Marks!!!!!! and identifying if a book is fiction or nonfiction. We are also talking about how to use what we already know to learn new information from a nonfiction book.
In math we practiced counting quantities between 10 and 20, explored counting strategies in relation to 5's and 10's and we ordered and compared quantities from least to most. Here is one way we practiced this....

School....Yay!!!!!!!
Wow.....what a crazy snow week.....it was beautiful and a bit too long! Hope you had fun with your children in the snow.
There is a Book Fair happening at Blakely. You may pop in after school on Tuesday and Wednesday to purchase books with your students. It is a fund-raiser for the library with 50% of the profits going to Blakely. Our class knows all about it because the very colorful truck filled with books parks and unloads right outside our windows!
We have Chinese students visiting Blakely for this week and the timing couldn't be more perfect since today is Chinese New Year! It's the Year of the Dragon (that's my year)! The six-year-old students are Roosters and the five-year-olds are Dogs! We will be celebrating all week and have a party this Friday......any one want to volunteer from 8 to 10???
We missed Specialist to go to the Fourth Grade Concert. A wonderful production! The students did some Filipino Tinikling Bamboo Dancing. When we came back to the class we watched a video and tried it ourselves! Here are those kindergartners running, hopping, around with a little bit of pushing....oops!
A great day was had by all....

Tuesday!
We started learning about Chinese New Year, which is this Monday! It will be the year of the dragon. Your darling children are roosters or dogs!
We did Tangrams, and followed the rules; You have to use all 7 pieces, the pieces must touch at least one other piece, and you can't overlap any pieces...
Practicing for our big concert....

Thursday!!!!
Another busy day in kindergarten!!! Jeffrey brought in "Chicken Soup" for snack.......you will want to ask your child what "Chicken Soup" is... We decided to make patterns with our snack - and not those easy ABABABABAB patterns but more complex ones like ABCABCABC or AABBAABBAABB! Then the students took turns using KINDERGARTNERS to make patterns!! Next they made up three different patterns with the Unifix cubes (that Ms. Keller DUMPED all over the floor) and recorded them on paper. After all these pattern activities the students shared what they noticed. I noticed that they are becoming amazing mathematicians!!
