Friday!!!!!!!!!!

We started off the day with a cooking project!!!!  To end our study of chicken and eggs, we made Rice Krispie treat bird nests.  The kindergartners added a "Peeps" chicken and then when they were out at recess their chickens laid eggs!!!!!

   Watching the butter melt...

 Adding the marshmallows...

 Stirring in the cereal...

 Made nests for the chickens...

 The chickens laid eggs!!!!!!

Thursday!

It's been such a wonderful, busy week.  This morning we had a very informative visit with the people from Bainbridge Zero Waste.  We saved all of our trash from Wednesday.  While we watched a video of children finding plastic on our beaches and what that meant, the team which included Diane Landry, Rebeca Rockefeller and Liesl Clark, dumped our trash on a plastic mat. We had a great discussion about what we could compost, recycle, and reuse.  Of course, our class is a bit ahead of the game because we recycle everything we can and try not to waste food!

Wednesday!

A beautiful day in Room 2.....these kindergartners are amazing - have you heard me mention that before?????

We have carefully collected our garbage making sure none of it leaves the room today.  We will use it for our Waste Audit tomorrow with Ms. Landry.  Should be interesting!

We continue to learn about all things chicken and eggs...

Here is Ms. Dhaliwal (our famous resident Room 2 chef) preparing quiche with the kindergartners.  We used the eggs from we washed on our field trip to HeyDay Farm.

Thursday!

It was a wonderful morning with these amazing kindergartners!  Here they are showing their favorite substitute teacher, Ms. Nelson, their perfect learning positions!  She was here for the afternoon while I was in a meeting with the other Blakely kindergarten teachers!

Tuesday!

It's "all things eggs" around here. The kindergartners, and I, are learning lots of interesting facts about them in preparation for our trip to HeyDay farm!  Here are our favorite books so far....

All volunteers who are ready for a 30 minute walk there, and back, and 45 minutes of activities at the farm, please let me know!

We discussed how we learn information from nonfiction books using these questions....
  • Why is it helpful to know if a book is fiction or nonfiction before you begin to read?
  • When you read a nonfiction book, why is it a good idea to think about what you already know?
  • How can asking questions as you read a nonfiction book help you learn something new?
  • When you are finished reading a nonfiction book, why is it helpful to think about new questions you have?
These smart kindergartners had lots of good answers!

Here they are, out in the wind, getting ready to go to art!
