June Countdown

Oh the last days have been wonderful and crazy!  Our trip to Fay Bainbride was great.....we got back into the bus just as raindrops started to fall!

Today we tie-dyed our t-shirts (and hands, legs, etc.) with our third-grade buddies.  We also had one more Reading Buddy day where we had Free Choice!

 

June!

So sorry for the lack of posts!  So much is going on around here and we are having LOTS of fun.  Here are just a few pictures from our last HeyDay Farm trip where we planted potatoes!!!

 Mr. Garfunkel told us the steps: 1. Pull weeds  2. Feed weeds to the pigs  3. Dig a hole for your potato  4. Put plant food in hole  5. Put potato in hole  6. Mound dirt over potato

 

 The pigs were happy to get our weeds!

Tuesday

We had another fun filled day...First we read  "Swimmy", by Leo Lionni, one of our favorite authors.     

The kindergartners wrote about how they can be good friends.  They also painted a piece of paper blue and then sprinkled salt on the paper to make it look like water....

We also painted our frames that we will take to Fay Bainbridge to decorate....

We decided to use our old bulletin board paper to dry our art on - but we decided to play with it first......

The funny thing was that those cute kindergartners kept working on their writing project...

Friday

A quick report on Artist and Author Night................it was beautiful.  I was SO proud of my kindergartners!!!!!!  Their art work was gorgeous, they had a folder full of wonderful writing, they recited their poems so very cutely, and the Fox and Goose song was darling!  I love my job!!!!!!

Sunny Monday!

What a beautiful day!  The kindergartners had PE outside and loved it!  We are thinking about all things flowers this week.  Jeffrey brought a beautiful one in last week and we watched it start blooming today!

These amazing, wonderful, smart ALMOST first-graders stayed very busy today...

 

Wednesday!

It was another GREAT day in Room 2!  The kindergartners worked hard on their literacy jobs - painting chameleons, making pop-up butterfly books, making a "butterfly in-a-bag" life cycle, and reading.  We got some stories read while working on many important literacy concepts, wrote in journals, signed a letter to Mr. Ande requesting another "flipping bar", and made new May calendar markers focusing on morning, afternoon, and evening activities.  We also had time for Reading Buddies - we went to their room, lots of recess, free choice and PE at the end of the day!

Thursday!

We are working hard on our Fiction stories.  The kindergartners filled out a Story Map to get their ideas down for characters, setting, problems and solutions.  We have spent a few days, as a group, first choosing a setting and a character and then making up a story together.  I have heard some wonderful ideas!

Still working on all things buggy.  We have learned many amazing facts about the insect and spider world.  Ask your kindergartner about the eyes of flies!

Wednesday!

Lots of good literacy discussions around how illustrations help tell a story, how some authors use words in different shapes to help tell a story and how talking to someone about a book you have just read helps you to remember the story!

We had to make MORE cats this morning for the "Our Month in School" chart.  We spin each day to see which one goes up.  Can you see why we were coloring cats?!?!?!?

Pavel's mom brought in fun project - bug cookies!  She was all ready to help our 19 kindergartners get frosting when our 3rd grade reading buddy class walked in!  I forgot they were coming - even though they come every Wednesday at the same time!  They were in luck because Ms. Dhaliwal was SO PREPARED that she had enough cookies, frosting and decorations for everyone!
