We stayed busy with more gingerbread books.  Our favorite so far is "The Gingerbread Girl".  I started tracing kindergartners so they could paint a life-size gingerbread person!

Monday!

Wow, these kindergartners were SO happy to see each other today...............it was hard to get them quiet!!!!!

I did get them quiet while they were working on the skill of copying print from the board....

We started reading Gingerbread boy / baby books and will add on girl/ cowboy, etc.  Next week we will make and bake our very own cookies!  I would love any contributions of candy that works for gingerbread people.  Thanks!

Wednesday

Our stone soup feast was a success!  We gathered with a hundred other students and sat down and ate the food we all prepared!  it was all very sweet.  Thank you for making sure your child had some lunch to eat along with the soup.  I will post pictures after they get "okayed" by the other teachers.

Pavel's mom brought eggnog and most of us were eager to have a drink!

Here is what I am thankful for.....having the opportunity to spend each day with your lovely children - I am not kidding!  I absolutely LOVE my job as a kindergarten teacher and want to thank all of the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, for the work you have done to create thoughtful, smart, funny and always exuberant children!

Tuesday...

Whew, did we stay busy today!

After ANOTHER story of "Stone Soup" we got ready to make our own!  There was lots of dumping and stirring as these enthusiastic kindergarten chefs combined ingredients...

The kindergartners made turkeys using paper pattern block pieces...

We collected lots of food for Helpline House...

The rest of the day flew by.....

Monday!

It was a beautiful, wet, and windy fall day!  The kindergartners painted, read, wrote, counted, added, sang, wiggled, crawled, hopped, and were their amazing selves!  I am reading different versions of the story "Stone Soup" to them and tomorrow we will make 2 pots of the stuff for our Thanksgiving Feast!  Here is what I need you to know:

  • On Wednesday all students need to bring in a sandwich and a drink (their water bottles are fine if they have them here).  We will be serving stone soup (vegetable soup), snack mix, and a cookie dessert.  The sandwiches are for if after they take their "courtesy bite" and they don't want to eat anymore soup they will have something to eat!
  • Our class will be joining a first-grade class, a second-grade, a third-grade class, and a fourth-grade class for this special lunch.  It should be a little loud (we are eating at tables set up on the stage in the gym), and very fun to be mixed up with all the different aged children!
  •  I still need some volunteers from approximately 9:45 to 11:30.
  •  We are collecting food for Helpline House so please keep those donations coming in....it's a great service-learning project for your children!  Thank you for the wonderful donations you have already made!

Thank you for sending warm jackets with hoods!!!!!!!!

Thursday!

Another great day was had by these energetic kindergartners!  We had a day filled with social curriculum from "Hands Are Not For Hitting" and "Words Are Not For Hurting" to a Superlex story.  The kindergartners are increasing their stamina for sitting and listening (on most days) and were able to sit through the "longish" story "Buster" by one of our favorite authors Denise Fleming

 Ms. Saliba talking about Superflex

We were able to tell our mouse story to many......and on the way out to the bus today we saw a salamander that looked like this.  I went back to take a photo but it was gone!

Ms. Colby, mouse whisperer, with mouse in a cup!

I pulled out a mouse puppet to watch over the classroom while we were waiting for the little mouse to be caught!

Mr. Adair came in to catch the mouse....

Blurry close-up of mouse who now is in the woods!

Wednesday!

A crazy, wonderful day.  We had a little visitor in our room, around 9:00 and it kept us a bit distracted..........a mouse!  A very tiny, cute mouse!  I decided for the rest of the day we would not be sitting on the floor so we got to go to our 3rd grade reading-buddy classroom to read books.  We also sat at our desks for R & R.  While these amazing kindergartners were in music, Ms. Colby (mouse-whisperer) and I caught the mouse!  We put it gently out the window and then had to re-catch it after we got our students on the bus because it kept running back and forth under the window.  It is now safely deep into the woods!

I am unable to post photos at this time due to a computer glitch but I will add them when I can....

Foggy Tuesday!

Today was one of those wonderful days that moved at a quick pace!  Here are your little darlings stretching after PE...

Monday!

We got to make paper today!  The kindergartners filled their bottles with paper and water, shook the bottle until their hands got REALLY tired, added some glitter and then poured the pulp into a screen.  Ask them what they did next to get rid of more water!

Half of the class did Math tubs while they waited for their turn to "Shake, shake, shake until your hands break"....

Little pieces of paper made more beautiful with glitter!

Thursday

Each day this week we have been listening to fourth-graders read essays over the intercom about their relatives who are veterans.  The kindergartners really listen to those voices and add information of their own.  Today the entire school gathered around the flag pole to listen to our principal, Mr. Ande further discuss veterans.  Saying the flag salute together was next.

The rest of the day flew by.  We had lots of fun working on "sorting" after Ms. Keller dumped tubs of items on the floor...

The fun continued as we headed over to the computer lab, and then onto lunch where we were served some of the "HEYDAY Farm" potatoes that we helped harvest!

We had a nice quiet time reading to ourselves, a VERY short free-choice time, a beautiful sunny recess, and then into the library to do centers with Ms. Pool.  The kindergartners loved "Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes".

Wednesday!

We continued our exploration of paper.  It is pretty wonderful how excited these kindergarten scientists get over pieces of paper, eye-droppers and a little water!

It was a busy day...books about scarecrows, and fall, new math tubs, reading buddies and PE!  Here they are hard at work at their desks...
